Professional Patio Construction in Cumming

Your backyard should be more than a patch of grass and a concrete slab. We build custom patios across Cumming using Belgard pavers, natural flagstone, and precision grading techniques that keep your outdoor space level and solid for decades.

Custom Paver Patio Designs

Every patio we build in Cumming starts with an on-site design consultation where we measure your space, assess drainage patterns, and discuss how you want to use the area. We work primarily with Belgard pavers — over 100 styles and colors — along with natural flagstone for homeowners who prefer an organic look. Whether you want a clean geometric layout for modern homes near Vickery Village or a rustic flagstone patio that blends with a wooded lot in Coal Mountain, we design around how your family actually lives outdoors.

Precision Grading & Excavation

Forsyth County's red clay soil expands when wet and contracts when dry — and that cycle destroys poorly prepared patios within a few years. We excavate to the proper depth, install compacted gravel base layers, and grade every project for positive drainage away from your home's foundation. This prep work is invisible once the pavers go down, but it's the difference between a patio that stays flat for 20 years and one that heaves and settles after two Georgia winters. We don't cut corners on base prep, period.

Seamless Home Integration

A patio shouldn't look like an afterthought. We design every paver patio in Cumming to connect naturally with your existing deck, porch, or back door threshold. Transition strips, matching elevation changes, and coordinated material choices make the patio feel like it was always part of the house. If you have an existing deck or screened porch, we'll tie the patio into that structure so you get a unified outdoor living space rather than disconnected zones.

Outdoor Fireplaces & Fire Pits

Nothing extends the usability of a Cumming patio like a built-in fireplace or fire pit. We construct custom masonry fireplaces with natural stone veneer and fire pits in circular, square, or linear designs that serve as the centerpiece of your outdoor room. Gas-fueled options give you instant flame at the flip of a switch, while wood-burning builds deliver that authentic campfire feel. Every fireplace and fire pit we install meets Forsyth County fire code and includes proper ventilation and safety clearances.

Patio construction in Cumming is about more than laying pavers on dirt. It's about understanding how North Georgia's clay soils behave, how water moves across your specific lot, and how your family wants to use the finished space. We've been building patios across Forsyth County long enough to know which materials perform and which ones crack, shift, or stain after a couple of seasons.

Whether you're adding a paver patio behind a new build near Lake Lanier or replacing a crumbling concrete slab in an established Cumming neighborhood, our crew manages every phase — from the initial design and Forsyth County permitting through final compaction and joint sanding. You get one point of contact and a clean job site from start to finish.

Pool Deck Specialists

Luxury Pool Deck Builders for Cumming Homes

Your pool deserves a deck that's safe, cool underfoot, and built to handle Georgia's heat and rain for years. We install slip-resistant pool deck surfaces and handle complete resurfacing projects across Forsyth County.

Slip-Resistant Pool Deck Surfaces

Safety is the top priority around any pool, and the surface material makes all the difference. We install travertine, textured Belgard pavers, and specialized pool coping systems that provide real grip when wet — not the slippery stamped concrete that comes standard with many pool installations in Cumming. Travertine in particular stays significantly cooler than concrete or dark stone in direct sunlight, which matters when Georgia's summer temperatures push past 95 degrees for weeks at a time.

Every pool deck we build in Forsyth County includes proper slope engineering so water drains away from the pool edge and away from your home's foundation. No standing puddles, no erosion channels, and no water finding its way into your basement or crawl space.

  • Travertine and textured pavers rated for wet conditions
  • Cool-to-the-touch surfaces that won't burn bare feet
  • Engineered drainage that prevents pooling and erosion

Pool Deck Resurfacing & Drainage

If your existing pool deck in Cumming is cracked, stained, or just outdated, resurfacing gives you a brand-new look without the cost of tearing everything out and starting over. We overlay existing concrete with paver systems or apply decorative concrete coatings that refresh the surface while adding slip resistance and UV protection. For badly damaged decks, we do full tear-outs and rebuild with new base prep and premium paver materials.

Drainage problems around pools are common in Forsyth County because of the clay soil — water sits instead of draining, and that leads to algae growth, erosion, and landscaping damage. We install channel drains, French drains, and engineered grading solutions that route pool splash and rainwater where it needs to go. We coordinate with your pool company to make sure our deck timeline lines up with any pool maintenance or renovation work happening simultaneously.

  • Overlay options that save 30-40% versus full replacement
  • Channel drains and French drain systems for pool runoff
  • Full coordination with pool installers on project timelines
Complete Outdoor Living

Outdoor Living Spaces That Work Year-Round

Cumming's mild winters and long summers make outdoor living spaces a smart investment. We design and build complete backyard environments — patios, fire features, outdoor kitchens, and lighting — that you'll use nine months out of the year.

Outdoor Kitchen Zones

Built-in grills, countertops, sinks, and storage integrated directly into your patio layout. We use natural stone and Belgard paver veneers that match your patio surface, and we run gas, water, and electrical lines before the pavers go down so nothing has to be retrofitted later.

Landscape Lighting Design

Low-voltage LED lighting installed along patio edges, within seat walls, and around fire features transforms your outdoor space after sunset. We wire the system during patio construction so fixtures are flush-mounted and invisible during the day. Most Cumming homeowners tell us the lighting doubled their evening outdoor use.

Seat Walls & Retaining Walls

Custom stone seat walls define patio zones and provide built-in seating for gatherings. On sloped Forsyth County lots, we build retaining walls that create level patio areas where the natural grade wouldn't allow them — turning unusable hillside into functional outdoor living space.

"It's tough to find people you feel like you can trust not to try and get over on you. I spoke with Wes about work I needed to get done and was surprised at his level of honesty and professionalism. Putting that with the word of mouth on the quality of his work... and I wouldn't/won't hesitate to work with him on my next project."

"We had a major project to be undertaken. Need construction to the rescue!! We had water damage to some of the framing on the home exterior and major deck demo and rebuild. They handled it all. I had some unique requests that I wanted installed on my deck. The DekDrain rain system along with the full composite Dekorators Summit boards and railing with a cocktail rail was our desire. We also had to have a concrete patio area below. Wes and his team made it all happen. The subframe was built with better materials that any other contractor had even offered and I was impressed with that alone. I have no doubt that hurricane force winds would have no effect on this fortress of a deck. Even the city inpectors were wowed by the build quality. The craftsmanship and finishing of the final product is top tier. They will take the time to make sure it's your dream come true."

FAQ

Patio Construction & Pool Deck FAQs for Cumming

Common questions from Forsyth County homeowners about patio construction, pool decks, Belgard pavers, and outdoor living projects.

How much does a concrete patio cost in Cumming?

A standard brushed concrete patio in Cumming typically runs between $8 and $15 per square foot installed, while stamped concrete with decorative patterns ranges from $15 to $25 per square foot. For a typical 400-square-foot patio, you're looking at $3,200 to $10,000 depending on the finish, thickness, and site prep needed. Forsyth County requires a permit when the patio exceeds a certain impervious surface threshold on your lot — we handle the application and inspections so you don't have to chase paperwork.

Which is better for a pool deck: pavers or concrete?

For pool decks in Cumming, we recommend pavers in most cases. Concrete absorbs and radiates heat — on a 95-degree Georgia afternoon, a poured concrete pool deck can hit 150 degrees underfoot. Pavers like travertine and textured Belgard products stay noticeably cooler because of their joint spacing and material density. Pavers also resist cracking better than poured concrete, which is important because Georgia's clay soil expands and contracts with seasonal moisture changes. If a single paver cracks or stains, you replace that one unit instead of patching an entire slab.

What are the benefits of Belgard pavers?

Belgard pavers are our go-to recommendation for patio construction in Cumming because of their interlocking technology and material quality. Their patented locking system creates a surface that resists shifting and settling — a real advantage on Forsyth County's red clay soils. Belgard offers over 100 style, color, and texture combinations, from natural stone looks to clean modern designs, so your patio matches your home's architecture. They also carry a lifetime limited warranty that transfers to future homeowners, which adds real resale value to your property.

How long does patio construction typically take?

Most patio projects in Cumming take between five and ten working days from start to finish. The first two to three days go to excavation, grading, and base preparation — this step is critical for long-term stability, especially on sloped Forsyth County lots. Paver installation typically takes two to four days depending on the size and pattern complexity. Simpler layouts like running bond go faster than herringbone or circular designs. Mortar-set patios and flagstone need an additional two to three days of curing time before you can place furniture.

Can you build a patio with an outdoor fireplace?

Absolutely — integrated outdoor fireplaces are one of our most requested features for patio construction in Cumming. We design the fireplace as part of the patio layout from day one, which means proper footings, gas line routing, and safety clearances are built into the plan rather than retrofitted. You can choose between natural gas hookups for convenience or wood-burning masonry fireplaces for a traditional feel. Forsyth County requires a minimum 10-foot clearance from combustible structures, and we make sure every fireplace we build meets local fire code before the final inspection.

Do I need a permit for a patio in Forsyth County?

In most cases, yes. Forsyth County regulates impervious surface coverage, which includes patios, driveways, and pool decks. If your project pushes your lot's impervious coverage beyond the zoning threshold — typically 35% to 40% depending on your subdivision — you'll need a land disturbance permit. Many Cumming HOAs also have their own architectural review requirements on top of county regulations. We handle the full permitting process for every patio we build, including site plans, county submissions, and required inspections.

What is the best way to design an outdoor living room?

The best outdoor living rooms in Cumming start with zone planning — separate areas for cooking, dining, and lounging rather than one flat slab. We typically lay out the patio in connected zones using different paver patterns or elevation changes to define each space. Shade is critical in North Georgia summers, so we incorporate shade sails, pavilions, or covered structures into the design. Landscape lighting along pathways and seating areas extends your usable hours well past sunset. Our most popular Cumming projects combine a Belgard paver patio with a built-in fireplace, an outdoor kitchen zone, and integrated low-voltage lighting.

Do you offer driveway pavers as well?

Yes, we install paver driveways throughout Cumming and Forsyth County. Driveway pavers need to be significantly thicker and use a heavier base preparation than patio pavers because they support vehicle loads. We use Belgard's commercial-grade interlocking pavers rated for vehicular traffic, which distribute weight evenly and resist the cracking that plagues poured concrete driveways on Georgia's expansive clay soils. A paver driveway also makes a dramatic curb appeal improvement — homeowners in Cumming neighborhoods like Polo Fields and Windermere consistently see strong return on this investment.
