Custom Inground Pool Construction: Fiberglass, Gunite & Infinity Designs

Every pool we build starts with your vision and your property. We engineer luxury inground pools designed specifically for North Georgia's terrain, soil conditions, and climate — not off-the-shelf designs forced onto your lot.

Infinity Pools Engineered for Sloped Lots

North Georgia's rolling topography is a natural gift for vanishing-edge pool design — and we know how to use it. Our inground pool construction team specializes in precision engineering for infinity pools on sloped properties throughout Alpharetta, Milton, and Roswell. We integrate structural retaining walls, advanced drainage management, and reinforced gunite shells to create pools that appear to flow seamlessly into the landscape. Neighborhoods like Windward, The Manor, and Crooked Creek have the elevation changes that produce truly dramatic infinity edges. Every project begins with a thorough site survey and geotechnical assessment so the engineering matches your specific terrain.

Fiberglass Pool Installation: Fast & Low-Maintenance

For homeowners who want a luxury pool without months of construction disruption, fiberglass pool installation is the way to go. Pre-formed fiberglass shells arrive ready to set, and our crew typically completes the full installation — excavation through first fill — in 2 to 3 weeks. The non-porous gel-coat surface naturally resists algae growth, which means lower chemical costs and less weekly maintenance compared to gunite or vinyl alternatives. Fiberglass pools also flex slightly with ground movement rather than cracking, an important advantage given the clay-heavy soils across much of North Atlanta. We carry shells in dozens of shapes and sizes to match your backyard layout and aesthetic.

Custom Gunite Pools with Tanning Ledges & Spas

When you want complete creative control over your pool's shape, depth, and built-in features, custom gunite is the gold standard. Our gunite pool designs feature tanning ledges (Baja shelves), integrated spas with separate heating, swim-up bars, and benches sculpted directly into the pool shell. Gunite is applied on-site by our experienced crews, which means the pool is formed to your exact specifications — there are no compromises on shape or size. We finish interiors with premium pebble, quartz, or glass tile surfaces that are as durable as they are beautiful. For North Atlanta homeowners building their dream backyard, gunite gives you options that no other construction method can match.

Complete Site Preparation & Drainage Management

A luxury pool is only as good as the ground it sits on. Our inground pool construction process includes comprehensive site preparation — precision grading, soil compaction, underground utility routing, and drainage engineering — before any concrete is poured or shells are set. We address the specific challenges of North Georgia properties: high clay content that retains water, granite shelf that requires specialized excavation, and natural drainage patterns that must be redirected away from the pool structure. Proper site prep prevents settlement, cracking, and water intrusion problems that plague pools built by contractors who cut corners on the foundation work. We also coordinate tree removal, retaining walls, and erosion control as part of the same project so you're dealing with one team, not five.

One-Contractor Solution

The Total Exterior Advantage: More Than Just a Pool Builder

Most pool contractors dig a hole and fill it with water. We build complete outdoor living environments — integrating your pool with your home's structure, your deck, your landscape, and every system that connects them.

Seamless Integration with Roofing & Decking Systems

Unlike standalone pool companies, we're a full-service exterior construction firm. That means we integrate your new pool with existing structures — GAF-certified roofing on pool houses and covered pavilions, Deckorators composite decking for pool decks and surrounds, and weather-tight connections where new construction meets your home. When your pool contractor also understands roofing loads, deck engineering, and structural tie-ins, you get a finished product that looks and performs like it was designed as one cohesive project — because it was. No finger-pointing between subcontractors, no mismatched materials, no gaps in warranty coverage.

One Contractor, Zero Coordination Headaches

Pool excavation near your home's foundation is serious work. Improper grading, soil displacement, and vibration can affect your home's structural integrity if the pool contractor doesn't understand building science. Because we build homes, additions, and roofs alongside pools, we approach excavation with a builder's mindset — monitoring foundation proximity, managing soil loads, protecting underground utilities, and ensuring proper compaction around the pool structure. You get a single project manager, a single schedule, and a single point of accountability. For homeowners in Alpharetta and Milton planning a pool alongside a deck, patio, or outdoor kitchen, this one-contractor approach saves weeks of coordination and thousands in overlap costs.

Underdeck Drainage for Dry Poolside Lounging

If your pool sits adjacent to an elevated deck — a common layout on sloped North Atlanta properties — we install professional underdeck drainage systems that channel water away from the area beneath the deck. This creates a completely dry lounge zone right next to your pool, protected from rain and deck runoff, where you can place furniture, a bar, or even an outdoor TV setup. It's a feature most pool-only contractors don't even think about, but as exterior builders who specialize in both pools and decking, we design these spaces as an integrated system from day one. Check out our integrated pool landscape projects to see how these elements come together.

"It's tough to find people you feel like you can trust not to try and get over on you. I spoke with Wes about work I needed to get done and was surprised at his level of honesty and professionalism. Putting that with the word of mouth on the quality of his work... and I wouldn't/won't hesitate to work with him on my next project."

"We had a major project to be undertaken. Need construction to the rescue!! We had water damage to some of the framing on the home exterior and major deck demo and rebuild. They handled it all. I had some unique requests that I wanted installed on my deck. The DekDrain rain system along with the full composite Dekorators Summit boards and railing with a cocktail rail was our desire. We also had to have a concrete patio area below. Wes and his team made it all happen. The subframe was built with better materials that any other contractor had even offered and I was impressed with that alone. I have no doubt that hurricane force winds would have no effect on this fortress of a deck. Even the city inpectors were wowed by the build quality. The craftsmanship and finishing of the final product is top tier. They will take the time to make sure it's your dream come true."

FAQ

Inground Pool Construction FAQ

Answers to common questions from North Atlanta homeowners considering a luxury inground pool.

What is the average inground pool cost in Atlanta?

Luxury inground pool construction in the North Atlanta area typically starts around $65,000 and can range up to $150,000 or more depending on the scope. The biggest factors driving cost are material choice — fiberglass shells run less than custom gunite — terrain complexity, and the features you want built in. Sloped lots common in Alpharetta and Milton require additional excavation and engineering, which adds to the investment. Gunite pools with infinity edges, integrated spas, and tanning ledges sit at the premium end, while fiberglass installations offer a faster build timeline at a lower price point. We provide detailed, itemized estimates so you know exactly where every dollar goes before we break ground.

Fiberglass vs Gunite pools: Which is better for North Georgia?

Both are excellent choices, but the right fit depends on your property and goals. Fiberglass pools install faster — typically 2 to 3 weeks once the shell arrives — and feature a smooth, non-porous surface that resists algae and requires less chemical maintenance. Gunite pools, on the other hand, allow for fully custom shapes, infinity edges, and integrated features like built-in spas and tanning ledges that fiberglass simply cannot match. For properties in Alpharetta and Milton with significant grade changes, we often recommend reinforced gunite because it can be engineered to work with the natural slope rather than against it. The clay-heavy soil conditions across North Georgia also favor gunite's ability to be formed on-site to match exact terrain contours.

How long does plunge pool installation take?

A plunge pool installation in North Atlanta typically takes 4 to 8 weeks from permit approval to final fill. The smaller footprint — usually 10 to 15 feet in length — allows for faster site preparation and less disruption to your yard compared to a full-size pool. Permitting in Milton and Alpharetta generally takes 2 to 3 weeks, and we handle the entire application process. Plunge pools are an ideal solution for compact backyards in established Milton and Johns Creek neighborhoods where lot sizes don't accommodate a regulation-size pool but homeowners still want that luxury backyard experience.

Do you build infinity pools on sloped lots?

Absolutely — sloped lots are actually ideal for infinity pool construction, and North Georgia's rolling topography gives us some of the best natural conditions for vanishing-edge designs in the Southeast. We use specialized structural engineering to integrate the pool with the slope, incorporating reinforced retaining walls and proper drainage systems so the pool sits securely while the water edge appears to flow seamlessly into the landscape below. Many of our most dramatic infinity pool projects are in Alpharetta and Milton neighborhoods like Windward, The Manor, and Crooked Creek where the natural elevation changes create stunning visual results.

Is a tanning pool worth the investment?

Tanning ledges — sometimes called Baja shelves or sun shelves — are one of the most requested features in our luxury pool builds, and for good reason. They add a broad shallow area, typically 6 to 12 inches deep, perfect for loungers, kids' play, or simply relaxing in the sun without being fully submerged. From a resale perspective, homes with luxury pool features in North Atlanta consistently command higher prices, and tanning ledges are specifically called out by buyers as a premium amenity. For families with small children, the shallow ledge provides a safer area to splash and play while parents relax nearby.

How do I choose between a swim spa and a plunge pool?

The decision comes down to how you plan to use the water. Swim spas are self-contained units with adjustable current jets designed for exercise and year-round use — they can be heated efficiently even through Georgia winters and fit on a reinforced patio pad. Plunge pools are permanent in-ground structures that offer a more refined aesthetic, greater property value increase, and a true pool experience in a compact footprint. If fitness and hydrotherapy are your primary goals, a swim spa delivers more functionality. If you want a permanent backyard centerpiece that adds lasting value to your North Atlanta home, a plunge pool is the stronger investment.

What permits are required for pool construction in Alpharetta?

Pool construction in Alpharetta and Milton requires a building permit from the City of Alpharetta or the City of Milton (Fulton County), depending on your exact location. You'll need to meet zoning setback requirements, install code-compliant safety fencing with self-closing and self-latching gates, and stay within the impervious surface ratio limits set by your jurisdiction — a critical factor for larger pools. Electrical permits for pump and lighting systems are also required. Need Construction handles every step of the permitting process, from site plan preparation to final inspections, so you never have to visit the building department.

Can I install a container swimming pool?

Container pools — converted shipping containers fitted with pool shells — are an increasingly popular option for homeowners who want a modern, industrial aesthetic with a faster installation timeline. They work well on Georgia soil when properly supported with a compacted gravel base or concrete pad, and they can be partially or fully buried to match your desired look. The standard 20-foot container gives you a compact pool similar in size to a plunge pool, while 40-foot containers approach the dimensions of a small lap pool. We help you evaluate whether a container pool or traditional in-ground construction makes more sense for your specific lot, HOA requirements, and design vision.
